i was born / like a bird / i fell / from the gates /
i was shelled / like an egg / i was new.

The Birth of River Snake is joy maps’ self-published poetry debut. it is a documentation, put to the page as a means to understand a process while it is occurring. the texts speak through multiple voices, each distinct and in conversation with one another, each making their own sense of their environment and lived experience. the boundaries between selves, and between human and non-human, are collapsed into a mythology of survival, journey, learning and healing. join the author at Mental Health Art Space (MHAS) Berlin for an intimate reading of poetry interwoven with story-telling, music and haptic elements.

Content Warnings: the Gaza genocide, death, police violence and racism, patriarchal violence, psychological trauma, dissociative states and suicidality.
