Artist Talk with Lizza May David and Fumiko Kikuchi Saturday 11 April, 2pm
As part of “Caring Histories: Asian Caregivers in Berlin Migration, Memory and Social Change (1950 – present)”, we welcome our two artists who are currently exhibiting their work in the space – Lizza May David and Fumiko Kikuchi.
Together with curator of “Caring Hsitories”, Kathy-Ann Tan, they will discuss issues of how they first encountered the stories of careworkers and nurses in Germany, and how they arrived at their choice of medium via an act of translation – transforming the oral histories, testimonies and archival research into figurations in painting and stop-motion animation film.
They will also talk about the reception of their work by careworkers and non-careworkers this far, in Germany and beyond.
