ARCHAEOLOGICAL DEBRIS:

a Pop-Up Exhibition by Mauricio Esquivel (The Fire Theory)

ARCHAEOLOGICAL DEBRIS is an ongoing research-based artistic project exploring identity, memory, ancestral culture, and the relationship between precolonial Mesoamerican civilizations and contemporary technological society. The project reflects on how colonization, globalization, and postcolonial systems have contributed to the erosion of Indigenous ancestry.

Mauricio Esquivel is a Salvadoran artist currently living between New York and Berlin. His artistic and curatorial practice focuses on displacement and the erosion of historical identity. He is a current fellow of the DAAD program in Germany and has exhibited his work in major biennials, including La Havana, Pontevedra, and Cuenca, among others. His work is part of collections such as the World Bank, the Wilfredo Lam Institute in Cuba, and the Museum of Art and Contemporary Design in Costa Rica. Recent projects include participation in the CENTRAL Performance Festival at Grace Exhibition Space (2024), New York; the XIV Havana Biennial (2022); and the New York Latin American Art Triennial (2022). He is currently working on an upcoming exhibition at Meno Parkas Gallery in Lithuania featuring the collaborative project Mantenerse Humano and Fading the Borders.
